Fungal Diagnostics: Understanding Fungal Infections and Treatments

Fungal Dx 2024 presents an incredible opportunity to explore how we can select the best diagnostic tests to detect fungal infections, interpret the results accurately, and determine the ideal antifungal treatment for effective management. This includes both currently available antifungals and novel antifungals that are under development, as well as strategies for selecting the right platform in both resource-rich and resource-limited clinical environments.

Over two days, attendees will engage in eight scientific sessions featuring world-renowned speakers, creating a diverse and interactive learning experience. Each session will begin with a case study, followed by discussions on critical algorithms and flowcharts useful for the diagnosis and detection of fungal infections, benefiting clinical microbiology laboratories and physicians managing these cases across various clinical settings.

Key topics will encompass fungal nomenclature, the epidemiology and global burden of fungal infections, direct microscopic examination of clinical samples, culture, cytology and histopathology, as well as serology, antigen detection, and point of care testing. Additional discussions will include molecular diagnostics, the application of MALDI-TOF (differentiating between Yeast and Mold), antifungal susceptibility testing (focusing on both phenotypic and molecular assays to identify resistance), novel therapeutics, and strategies for infection prevention against medically important fungi.
